Patriot Day 9/11 – Honor and Remember

Patriot Day: Honoring September 11th with the American Flag
Every year on September 11th, our nation observes Patriot Day, a solemn day of remembrance for the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the terrorist attacks in 2001. It is also a day to honor the first responders, service members, and ordinary citizens who showed extraordinary bravery and unity in the face of tragedy.
One of the most meaningful ways Americans show respect on this day is through the display of the U.S. flag at half-staff. From sunrise to sunset, the flag serves as a powerful symbol of mourning, strength, and national unity.
How to Properly Display the Flag on Patriot Day
The American flag should be flown at half-staff on all federal buildings, homes, and businesses.
If you have an indoor flag, you may also add a black ribbon or streamer above the flag to symbolize mourning.
Many communities also hold moments of silence at 8:46 a.m. (the time of the first attack).
A Day of Reflection
Patriot Day is not just about looking back—it is also a reminder of the resilience and spirit of the American people. As we gather in schools, workplaces, and communities, flying the flag is a visible way to say, “We remember, and we stand united.”
At Red River Flags, we are honored to help families, businesses, and organizations display the American flag with pride and respect. Today, and every day, let us never forget.
